Tips For Good Digestion
Digestion is the mechanical and chemical breaking down of food into smaller components, to a form that can be absorbed, for instance, into a blood stream. Digestion is a form of catabolism; a break-down of macro food molecules to smaller ones.
Here are some tips for good digestion.
1. Take Time and Eat Slowly
Eat slowly, to give your body time to release the enzymes that tell your brain you have had enough.
2. Avoid large meals
Big meal can make you feel sleepy, because it takes time to digest. When you consume five to six small-healthy meals every day, your body needs more calories to break down the food, thereby helping to raise your body metabolism.
3. Eat Fibre Rich Food
Fibre is an important source of roughage. The roughage component in fibre aids the digestive system, helping the body’s elimination process, and is therefore referred to as “Nature’s Broom”!
4. Drink Plenty of Water
You need to drink eight to ten glasses of water every day. Water regulates body temperature, assists the digestive system, transports nutrients and eliminates water from the body.
5. Avoid Frozen or Processed Food
Choose nutritious food rather than refined, processed food that are full of additives. To preserve nutrients, eat freshly cooked food rather than frozen or packaged food.
